Many small business people struggle to get their head around marketing. Maybe you’re one of them. What you should bear in mind, is that you’re probably already very good at marketing, you just hadn’t realised.
Consider the clothes you wear, the way you style your hair (if you’re not folliclly challenged), the car/bike/skateboard/watch you own - they are all statements you make which subliminally announce to the world - “I am this kind of person”. It’s your branding.
And your branding has an effect on other people. They might like you. They might not. Either way, how they feel about you determines how they interact with you.
So it is with your business. Marketing is how you dress your business and your product or service offering. If it doesn’t match with your chosen market’s expectations about your business or offering, you won’t get very far. So it’s important that you match the two up.
Successful marketing provides the market with the impression you want to give, whilst at the same time satisfying the market’s expectations about your business. And you can control those expectations through your marketing too.
